STEINGRAEBER & SOHNE
If you ask ‘the man in the street’ which is the best make of piano the likely answer will be, “Steinway”. But if you ask owners of piano shops, tuners, piano teachers or top concert performers you will receive a host of replies!
Besides the top flight names such as Bösendorfer, Blüthner, Bechstein and, of course, Yamaha there are several manufacturers whose output is less but whose aim is to be best in the world. An example being the Fazioli concert grand which can cost £130,000. However, another make admired by many in the know is Steingraeber & Söhne.
With an impressive history dating from 1820, Steingraeber & Söhne were soon to be the largest piano manufacturer in Bavaria and they supplied Richard Wagner and the Bayreuth Festival.
In the 1960s, however, with Heinrich Schmidt’s modernisation of the factory their pianos really became noticed with a new designs and various patented inventions appearing over the following years. These included a 138cm concert upright piano, a new repetition ‘grand piano touch’ and even ‘anti-allergy’ pianos! 2008 saw the arrival of the Models D-232 and 168CF with carbon fibre soundboards.
These and many other innovations, have led many to believe Steingraeber & Söhne pianos are amongst the world’s best.
In our 25 June 2015 sale we were pleased to offer:
