40 Christoph Erler, Vienna (c1815) From the collection of the late Donald Adcock An important 7ft 5in Viennese grand in a walnut veneered case with a double-bent side and angled tail. 6-octave keyboard FF to f4, with a Viennese action and four pedals controlling una corda, sustaining, bassoon and moderator stops. This pianoforte was made for Princess Esterhazy and was originally at the Schloss Eisenstadter. It is recorded in the castle inventory and still bears the inventory label. Originally purchased for the estate by Johann Nepomuk Hummel, Haydn's successor in the service of Princess Esterhazy, for the use of the young Princesses. 60 Broadwood No 16,000 (c1843) From the collection of the late Donald Adcock An 8ft ‘Chopin’ grand piano in a rosewood case with 'pie crust' edging and carved cheeks on carved and faceted supports. The white label inscribed 'Patent Repetition Grand Pianoforte John Broadwood and Sons Manufacturers to Her. Majesty, . . This piano is of the same design as the Broadwood grand No 17047 which Chopin used on his London 1848 tour. This piano was restored by Donald Adcock between 2006 and 2007 to replicate, as authentically as possible, the original sound and touch. 90 Erard (c1918) A grand piano in a flame mahogany case with boxwood and ebony banding, on six faceted slender supports capped and terminated in ormolu, with traditional lyre. This model known as the Modele Trianon is based on the case decoration of the Erard grand piano made for Marie Antoinette; the piano now in the Cite de la Musique in Paris. The Erard archive states that it was originally supplied to Monsieur Blum, this is believed to be Leo Blum the Prime Minister of France from 1936 - 37.
