Clients are increasingly coming to Piano Auctions Ltd to sell their rare, early keyboard instruments and, amongst the ones we are selling in our 12 June 2014 auction, is a 1796 Stodart fortegrand.

Robert Stodart (1748 - 1831) was an important English piano maker of the eighteenth century and the patent for the English Grand Action was granted to Stodart in 1777. He was the first maker to attribute the word ‘grand’ to the pianoforte. There are very few eighteenth century grands by Stodart that have survived and even fewer that are in playing condition, such as this example.

We are therefore privileged to be offering such a wonderful restored instrument in our June 2014 sale. Estimate £10,000 - 15,000
