In my conversations with potential sellers who have Steinways that have been in their families for generations,  I have often been told, “When I got married my parents offered to give us either a house or a Steinway grand piano”.  This is because at that time a Steinway grand cost about the same as a perfectly respectable middle class house.

As for one in a satinwood case, inlaid with banding, well that would have certainly been quite a lot more.  This particular Steinway has been in the same family for an amazing 76 years and is in remarkable condition.

Sold in our Auction on the 6th April 2017:
Lot 70 - Steinway (c1906) A 6ft Model O grand piano in a satinwood case inlaid with banding on dual square tapered legs.  Hammer Price:  £10,500.
