The French piano firm of Erard were well known for making wonderful decorative cases for their pianos and supplied royalty and other famous people. 

Steinway and Son did not put their name lightly to other brands but their technicians were instrumental in designing the famous Boston brand hence ‘Boston designed by Steinway’. 

Piano Auctions Ltd are renowned for selling Steinways both old and new.  Yet again we had an amazing 22 Steinways in our Auction Sale of the 21st September 2017, including a pristine 2004 Model A grand.

In our September 21st 2017 Auction Sale we had more than our usual share of 9ft Concert  grands. 

Only the extremely well-to-do could afford a Fortegrand piano in the late 18th century and we had in our Auction Sale of the 21st September 2017 an example of a ‘luxury’ model in an inlaid satinwood case.

I am often asked, “Which is the best make of piano?” A question impossible to answer, of course, since when it comes down to the top makers’ pianos, personal taste of tone etc.,  comes into play.

In our April 6th 2017 Auction Sale there was worldwide interest in one particular instrument - Lot 63, the Tomkison grand which was made for King George IV and once proudly stood in the Brighton Pavilion. 

On direction of the Executors for the Estate of the Late Mrs Lore Barbara Colt, Piano Auctions Ltd were proud to be offering five selected important keyboard instruments, which were on loan to the Colt Clavier Collection.

I often get asked what is the difference between  a £1,500 upright piano and a £15,000 upright piano.  Besides the obvious answer, it is the name,  the quality, design and attention to detail which results in a consistent fine sounding instrument.
