Berdux - December 2020

The word Rococo is from the French for rubble or rocks. The style employs asymmetry with scrolling curves and sculpted moulding, all combining to create an illusion of motion and drama.

The magnificent Berdux in our upcoming sale is very much in this vein and is a wonderful celebration of everything that could be achieved by skilled artisans.  It is also an expression of growing industrial confidence found in Germany at the same time.

Lot 10  Berdux (c1892)   No 4815
An upright piano in a carved mahogany Rococo case decorated with shell and foliate ornaments and cabriole supports with an overstrung and underdamper action; together with a stool.

Estimate:  £1,000 – 1,500

Result: £1,700
