Lot 87 - Steinway (c1928) - | Est. £5,000 - £7,000

£5,800.00

A 5ft 7in Model M grand piano in an ebonised case on square tapered legs; together with a stool.

Condition Report:

LOT 87 – STEINWAY GRAND

Casework:  The case is in good condition and has been re-polished at some point in the recent past and although not the modern synthetic polyester that we expect on modern bright ebony instruments, it is nonetheless polished to a high shine and does a very good impersonation.

Frame, Pins, Strings, Soundboard and Bridges:  Are all in solid condition and would probably benefit from a clean but work has been done to this piano and to a good standard at some point in the fairly recent past – I would say between 30 and 40 years ago, so the piano itself in that respect needs nothing.  There are one or two areas of corrosion, the pins are a little bit mildly corroded and there is corrosion on the strings, but once again, I think this will clean with our old friend Scotch-Brite.

Hammers and Action:  The action, likewise, is good and solid and works well.

Keys and Keyboard:  Is ivory and it is in generally good condition but there are one or two very small and inconsequential splits to some of the keytops at the front and a little yellowing, and one keytop in the bass end has a little damage but this does not detract from the overall look of the piano.

General Notes: This is a handsome little piano and it plays nicely and can be lived with as is.

This report is based on a cursory examination and is our opinion only.  It does not constitute a guarantee and potential buyers should satisfy themselves about the lot before bidding.
